A wagering requirement is a condition that bonus credit must be played through a set number of times before any of it (or winnings from it) can be withdrawn. Understanding the requirement before you claim a bonus tells you whether it is realistically usable.
Our promo codes guide touches on this briefly: a bonus is rarely as simple as free money you can withdraw immediately. This page explains the actual mechanism behind that.
What a wagering requirement is
A wagering (or “playthrough”) requirement specifies how many times bonus credit must be used in gameplay before it, or anything won from it, becomes eligible for withdrawal. A “10x wagering requirement” on a ₹100 bonus means ₹1,000 worth of qualifying play is required before that bonus becomes withdrawable — a detail that changes whether a bonus is realistically usable at all.
Other conditions that commonly apply
- Game restrictions — not every game on a platform may count toward the wagering requirement equally, or at all.
- Time limits — a bonus and its wagering requirement often expire after a set period, after which unused credit can be forfeited.
- Maximum withdrawal caps — some bonus structures cap how much you can actually withdraw regardless of how much you technically won using the bonus.
- Minimum deposit requirements — a bonus may only activate after a deposit of a specific size.
What to check before you claim a bonus
- Find the actual wagering multiplier, not just the headline bonus amount.
- Check whether there’s an expiry window on the bonus or its wagering requirement.
- Look for a withdrawal cap tied specifically to bonus-derived winnings.
None of this tells you whether a specific platform’s terms are fair or realistic — that varies. What it gives you is the vocabulary to actually read the terms before you decide, rather than judging a bonus by its headline number alone.
A worked example
You deposit ₹500 and receive a “100% bonus” of ₹500 with a 10x wagering requirement on the bonus. Before the bonus, or anything won with it, can be withdrawn, you need to stake ₹5,000 (10 × ₹500) in games that count towards wagering. If slots count 100% but rummy counts only 10%, playing rummy would take ₹50,000 of stakes to clear the same requirement. Many offers apply the requirement to deposit plus bonus (₹1,000 here), which doubles it to ₹10,000.
The headline said “₹500 free”. The real condition is thousands of rupees in stakes, and most players lose part of their balance along the way.
Which balance gets used first
Apps usually keep two balances: cash (your deposits and withdrawable winnings) and bonus. Check which one your stakes come from first. If cash is used first, a bonus can stay locked while your real money is spent. If bonus is used first, winnings may be locked until wagering is complete.
Withdrawal conditions that are not about bonuses
- Minimum withdrawal, for example ₹100 or ₹200.
- KYC before the first withdrawal. See KYC requirements.
- Processing time and daily limits.
- A “verification fee” or “tax” to release a withdrawal. A genuine withdrawal never requires you to pay more money first. That is a scam pattern.
Since 1 May 2026, banks and payment providers in India may not process payments for online money games, which makes withdrawals from these apps less certain still. See online gaming law in India.
